Did you know that you can add videos to your courses in the ‘Mission Center’? For most of you, this is probably old news, but did you know that you can add subtitles to these videos as well? This is a great way to make your content more accessible to your learners!
Here are a few things you need to know before using this feature. First things first, how can you add subtitles to your video? Once your video is uploaded (and only then), click on the button in the upper left corner. A dropdown menu with a few options will appear, one of these is ‘Edit subtitles’. When you click on this option, the upload window will appear. Easy peasy lemon 🍋 squeezy, right?

Well, yes and no. There are still a few things you should keep in mind when uploading subtitles. Firstly, subtitles can only be uploaded in .srt files. Secondly, the name of your file is important. We recommend using the example suggested in the ‘Mission Center’, namely: subvideo.en.srt. The ‘en’ stands for English. If your subtitles are in another language, you should change this part (e.g. ‘nl’ for Dutch, ‘fr’ for French…). If everything goes according to plan, your subtitles’ name in myUQ Coach will be English (or Dutch, French…) Thirdly, if you also want to add a thumbnail (great idea, by the way 😉), you should always add the subtitles before the thumbnail. Otherwise, one of them won’t appear in myUQ Coach. However, we still recommend checking if the subtitles appear correctly before publishing your course.
A final tip for good measure? Tell your learners that there are subtitles and how to access them (for those of you wondering: they can access them by clicking on the button in the bottom right corner). So, with all these tips and tricks up your sleeve, you’re more than ready to add subtitles to your videos.
